楓は季節によって色を変えることから「世渡り上手」「長寿」、流水は「厄を流す」「身を清める」という意味を持ちます。
当時は上流階級しか見ることができなかった貴重な輸入品の紋様であるため現在でも格式高いモチーフとされ、着物や帯の柄として使用されています。
