Rural life hadn’t changed much up until the Great War and comely young milk maids were a popular inspiration for many of the leading painters of the day

The shades of green in the background make me think of the Regent’s Canal but green is also a healing colour and the colour the heart chakra

The painting has a deckled edge along the left side

My starting point for this painting was a sketch I made from a rather coy image from a Greek vase
